Part-Time Reading Specialist
Job Description
Catskill Montessori School is seeking a Reading Specialist to join our Elementary team for our current school year. This person will work in close partnership with the Director of Student Services (DOSS) to support and improve student literacy outcomes, writing progress, and achievement. Initially, our part-time Reading Specialist will assess our students’ reading levels (K-5) using the CMS benchmark assessments, which include initial sound inventory, blends and digraphs, Dibels, and Fountas and Pinnell. Our DOSS will support the Reading Specialist to complete these assessments. These assessments will be used to inform the instruction of students in small group lessons using Orton-Gillingham or other phonics-based lessons that are discussed with the DOSS. This role could expand based on the reading specialist's availability and interest; however, our primary goal is to benchmark students 3 times per year and provide targeted instruction for children who are performing below grade level in initial sound recognition, blends, digraphs or who need support in sequencing, inference, main idea, and comprehension.
