Art Guide

I love working with children—my favorite artists!---and am thrilled to be a part of CMS team, working as the art instructor.

My own creative process prioritizes experimentation, intuition, play, and curiosity, and I approach working with children in the same way. I like to guide students in their individual and collective discoveries—new approaches to art-making, materials, introductions to artists, and inspiration from anywhere and everywhere. I have taught art at many levels, from children’s camps in Hudson to undergraduate students at the University of New Mexico and SUNY Buffalo. I’ve worked with students from a diverse range of lived experiences and learning abilities and aim to meet everyone where they are while encouraging personal and artistic growth. Most important to me is fostering an environment where each student feels in touch with their creative genius, safe and free to express themselves, and that their expression is valuable.

I received a BFA from The Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from SUNY Buffalo. The focus of my own work over the last few years has primarily been painting and writing, though I also work in sculpture, video, and performance. I am endlessly interested in the creative process and have published essays on and interviews with creatives—filmmakers, poets, adobe builders, artists—in The Creative Independent, Southwest Contemporary, Hyperallergic, and other publications. My own work has been featured in Whitehot Magazine, Hyperallergic, MTV, The New York Times, Pitchfork, and elsewhere.
